In our backyard…

The IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship is playing right next door at Rogers Arena from December 25 – January 5. Team Canada will attempt to keep the gold medal they won last year, which was their 18th in the 44 years of the tournament. Canada’s first game is December 26 at noon.

While you are watching…

This will be an exciting tournament to watch … for the great hockey and to see a few Edmonton and Oiler connections. There are three on ice officials from Edmonton and area working throughout the tournament – Kyle Kowalski, Fraser Lawrence and Deion Foster as well as some exceptional young players to keep an eye out for:

Philip Broberg, Sweden

The Oilers 1st round pick (8th) in 2019 will be Sweden’s team captain.

Dylan Holloway, Canada

The Oilers 1st round pick (14th) in 2020 comes from Bragg Creek.

Kaiden Guhle, Canada

Montreal Canadiens 1st round pick (20th) in 2020 is from Edmonton.

Kirby Dach, Canada

Chicago Blackhawks 1st round pick (3rd) in 2019, comes from Fort Saskatchewan.
